Asites is located 23 km south of Heraklion on the picturesque eastern slopes of Mt Ida (Psiloritis). This was an area of Cretan resistance during the Ottoman occupation and the location of some of the oldest monasteries on the island, one of which, Gorgolaini, is on our agenda. The village features a local crafts and folklore museum, old stone houses with enchanting gardens, churches, and artisans, including a maker of sheep and goat bells. Hospitality reigns supreme, as does a delicious meal served in a 400-year old village home
